Chris & Meghan - NYC Wedding

I had the incredible opportunity of photographing Chris & Meghan's beautiful wedding in New York City. Here are some shots from that gorgeous spring day :)

                                                        We schlepped ourselves all the way up the Brooklyn Bridge and noticed it was under construction pretty much most of the way :( We did get a few really nice shots overlooking the city and the Manhattan bridge though!

Before and After D-Day.

I really enjoyed going through these rare color photos from Life magazine.  The masterfully restored  images from before and after D-Day show a perspective on what things looked like before and after that day.

After watching Band of Brothers years ago and researching my grandfather's time spent as a soldier in WWII, I have a fascination with history at that time.  My grandfather fought at the Battle of the Bulge.   I remember a few years ago sitting around our kitchen table as he told us (his grandchildren) stories of the war.    The greatest generation? I won't argue that.  I am grateful for our troops, and will always thank them for their service.

The color really breathes life into these images.  Today is the 68th anniversary of D-Day.

Fireflies

I grew up in a house surrounded by fields in Upstate New York. Every summer we'd have bonfires and take walks in the fields at night. The fireflies would light the paths and fields. I took them for granted until I moved out west. They don't have fireflies out there! I knew people who had never even seen one before. Now that I'm back east, I can enjoy them again. Can't wait till summer.

Martin Luther King Jr

A few months ago we visited Martin Luther King Jr's childhood home. There is a MLK museum, his boyhood home, the church he preached at, and his grave site, all within two blocks.

We didn't make it in time for the home tour, so we couldn't go in. We'll be here in Atlanta for 4 more years, so I'm sure we'll make it in someday.





Right outside the museum there is a huge mural depicting different events in the civil rights movement and King's life. I thought this particular section of the mural had congruence in some of todays events.



Ebenezer Baptist Church is where he preached from the pulpit. It is also where his funeral services were performed.



While you are sitting in the pews, they have an old recording of him giving his last sermon. This is a video of the funeral, where they played a recording of that sermon.





Its actually pretty easy to imagine him standing at the pulpit, speaking. Being surrounded by his congregation. I can imagine that this is almost a spiritual experience for some people.

These are the hymns they sung at his funeral.


This is the exact time his funeral service began on April 9th, 1968.


As we were crossing the street from the museum to get to the gravesite, we just happened upon Martin Luther King Jr Jr! What a strange coincidence! There were camera crews surrounding him. I'm still not sure why he was there.

It's a great place to look back and reflect on this important man and what he did for the African American population.

We've now been to the place of his birth, the place where he preached, the place he was killed, and where he is buried. We still say that the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis at the Lorraine Motel is one of the best museums we've ever been to. If you're ever anywhere within 100 miles of this place, GO.

Zion National Park

We decided to take a fun little family stroll down one of the paved paths in Zion National Park. 3 strollers, 3 dogs and 9 kids.

As we were walking back, the lighting was perfect. It was so beautiful. There aren't many more beautiful places on earth I'm sure.

Most of these images are straight out of the camera with maybe the slightest adjustment. Super super slight.
